What are you reading on Mondays?

The Thanksgiving holiday is over and it's back to work for most. With only 24 or 25 days until Christmas (depends on which day you're counting to), days will be busy with plans for another holiday while trying to complete the usual tasks at hand.

For my, I've got to get back to reading. I've done a little - a few pages in this book and a few in that, but not really enough.

So, it's Monday and I'm participating in the "It's Monday! What are you reading this week?" a weekly event hosted by J. Kaye of J. Kaye's Book Blog to list the books completed last week, the books currently being read, and the books to be finished this week.

With the holiday, I haven't done as well as I would have like to for my second Monday participation, but here goes:

Books I finished last week:
Dirty Little Angels - Chris Tusa

Currently Reading:
Eggs Benedict Arnold - Laura Childs
Girl with Skirt of Stars - Jennifer Kitchen
To Tempt the Wolf - Terry Spear

Books to Finish this Week:
Eggs Benedict Arnold - Laura Childs

What are you reading? Have you got to read as much as you would have liked over the past week? What books would you like to read or recommend to others?

  1. You're absolutely right, Mason - this is a very busy time of year, and it's hard to read for any length of time. Still, that doesn't stop me : ). Right now, I'm reading Robin Cook's newest, Intervention. I'm honestly not carried along by the story as I have been by some of his other novels, but I'm giving it a shot. I'm dipping into other books, too, but that's the one I'm "officially" reading.

  2. I hate to admit it, Margot, but I've never read any of Robin Cook's books. I've loved the movies I've watched based on the books, but just never tried reading one for some reason.
I'm trying to stay on track and finish one of my books for a review, while working on an article about the Mystery Lovers Kitchen for my paper and my blog, but I keep going back to another book I've started that has nothing to do with murder mystery - it's more fantasy.
Oh to be organized and on schedule (or at least half-way).

  3. Robin cook is responsible for me becoming a vegetarian - after reading "Toxin," there was no way I was ever going to eat a hamburger again....

I'm about to start Lisa Scottoline's "Why My Third Husband Will Be a Dog" - who could resist that title?!

  4. Ingrid, I just got a copy of "Third Husband" in the mail Friday and I'm dying to start on it, but I've got at least three others I've got to finish first. Hope you enjoy it, let me know.
When I see the name Robin Cook I always think of all the bodies suspended in a room and can't remember the name of the book.

  5. It IS really busy, isn't it?

I'm looking forward to Laura Child's new book. She did a spot for me at the Mystery Lovers Kitchen and seemed really nice.

  6. It is busy, Elizabeth but I guess that's a good thing. I've enjoyed the Tea Shop Mysteries by Laura Childs and found the Scrapbooking Mystery a nice change. This book, Eggs Benedict Arnold, is different from the other two series (as it should be), and it's been really good so far.

I'm starting a bad habit, though, I'm keeping one book with me to read, but I find myself picking up several others and reading a little on each one of them. I'll think about something that was happening in book A and say, "well I'll just read a little bit" and then the next thing I know I've picked up book D to do the same thing.

So many good books I want to read them all at the same time.

  7. Right now, I am reading Elizabeth's book, Pretty is as Pretty Dies other than that I am trying keep up with reading the blogs. I get some major time off at Christmas. Maybe then...

I love YOUR blog. It's like a warm glowing kitchen where you feel welcomed and want to sit down and drink a cup of coffee while you leaf through the books deciding on which one it will be.

  8. I just finished Kathy Reichs book, Devil Bones. She wrote this in her Charlotte, North Carolina setting. I didn't like it as well as some of her other books. I've purchased Stephen Tremp's book "Breakthrough". I'm reading it next. I'm not really a syfy person, but I became hooked from his blog on wormholes, blackholes and the Theory Of Everything. Actually, Stephen's blog is how I came across Elizabeth's Mystery Writing is Murder. I'm like y'all, I use to be able to read more!

  9. Thank you for your kind words about my blog. I like the idea of it feeling like a warm glowing kitchen and coffee would always be available. Pretty is as Pretty Dies is a great read. I enjoyed Myrtle and can't wait to see what she gets into next. I'm finding that reading blogs is a little like a snowball going down hill. It can take more and more time, but in a good way because it's oh so interesting.

I've listened to a couple of Kathy Reichs' books on CD. They were good, but I have to admit I LOVE the television show "Bones" that is based on her books even more. I've just recently found Stephen Tremp's blog and learning about his works. I found his blog through Margot Kinberg's blog. From one good blog to another, that's the fun of this.

  10. I've tried watching Bones, but I have trouble connecting the characters to the book and it blows my mind. I'm sitting there watching the show, thinking, now who is he in her books?

  11. Judy, unfortunately I think the only character on the show that is in the book is Bones herself. I like the show's chemistry between Bones and Boothe much better than that between Bones and Ryan in the books. The extra characters in the lab on the show just add to the mix for me. If I had read the books first, I probably wouldn't have watched the show, but I saw the show first and then read (or listened) to the books. The books tend to be more hard core murder mystery, while the show is entertaining murder mystery.
