Now I have a review to share with you.
by Elizabeth Stuckey-French
While the radiation exposure facing the residents of Japan (and possible other parts of the world) is very real and very serious, I’d like to share a fictional and somewhat humorous look at how on woman dealth with a radioactive problem on her own.
Marylou Ahearn is a driven woman. Marylou is driven to seek revenge against Dr. Wilson Spriggs for the deceitful and despicable thing he did to her and her family some 50 years earlier. Marylou had only been 23 at the time and 3 months pregnant.
It seems Marylou and some 799 other woman were unknowingly a part of a secret government experiment Dr. Spriggs conducted. The women were given a pink, fizzy vitamin cocktail and told it was healthy. In fact it wasn’t, it was radioactive and lead to the death of Marylou’s daughter.
Marylou, now in her late 70s, has tracked Dr. Spriggs to Tallahassee, FL, where he lives with his daughter and her family. Marylou moves into his neighborhood, uses a fake name and plans to destroy his family and kill him.
However, what she finds isn’t the ideal family. They have more problems than the average household between a midlife crisis, a possible affair, and 2 children with Asperger’s syndrome. On top of which, Marylou learns Dr. Spriggs has dementia and may not remember who she is and what he did.
Putting her plan into action anyway, Marylou works her way into the family’s life. The twists and turns the story takes from there are both humorous and sometimes sad. In the end Marylou winds up on a path that she never expected and definitely didn’t image.
There is a cute video at Amazon about this book. Click on this link and watch.

Mason - Congratulations on that very well-deserved award!! How cool that you collect tote bags; not only is it interesting, but it's "green." Thanks, too, for bringing those interesting books to our attention. The Revenge of the Radioactive Lady sounds like a fun read.
ReplyDeletecongrats on the award, Masy!
ReplyDeleteDemons Are A Girl's Best Friend have the most interesting title :)) and cover too :)
Congrats on your award - I like tote bags, Cary Grant, and Sam Elliott, too.
ReplyDeleteI've been going to download Kindle for PC - maybe I'll do it tomorrow and get 50 Ways to Hex Your Lover for free.
Happy Weekend!
Back in the days of the Cold War (I'm very old), it seemed like every other movie was about some strange happening tied to radiation exposure. It certainly was the basis for ALL the monster flicks. Just reading about this book made my nostalgic.
ReplyDeleteRe. Cary Grant and Sam Elliot - well, what's not to love? And Castle is my number one favorite.
Hi Mason .. congratulations on the award .. and your 7 things - that's brave to post up!! Chocolate I can agree with you!
ReplyDeleteGreat recipients for the new Stylish Award .. must check out Lady Fi ..
Radioactive Lady .. sounds interesting ..
Cheers Hilary
Thanks everyone for the kind words about the award. Y'all are the ones that make the blog special.
ReplyDeleteNiki, I could listen to Sam Elliott read a grocery list. He has such a wonderful voice. I like the chemistry between Castle and Beckett too.
Lou, thanks. Hope you have a great weekend too.
Margot, collecting tote bags would be 'green' if I could remember to take them with me to the store. LOL I just collecting more.
Dez, doesn't DEMONS ARE A GIRL'S BEST FRIEND look interesting? I have it in my TBR stack for this month and can't wait to get started.
Carol, I've downloaded both the Kindle for PC and the Nook for PC and both do well. I think you'll like the characters in 50 WAYS TO HEX YOUR LOVER.
Karen, I can't image trying to visit 1,200 blogs. I can't seem to get around to the less than 200 I follow. Continued success with the A-Z Challenge.
Linda, THE REVENGE OF THE RADIOACTIVE LADY does have that Cold War feel to it even though what's happening is modern time. I agree about Sam Elliott and Cary Grant. I didn't find Castle until the end of Season 1, but now it's a favorite.
Hilary, one can never go wrong with chocolate. Be sure to check out Lady Fi, she has beautiful photos of Sweden.
Mason, you're a doll! Thank you darlin' I love your two actors. Love Sam Elliot's voice, yum. thanks for the plug, too!
ReplyDeleteAll kinds of goodies!! Congrats on the award and thanks for the awesome tips on these books! :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your award!
ReplyDeleteContrary to what I had expected, I found the review of The Radioactive Lady very intriguing. I´ll have to think about that one (though the pastel-coloured cover would never have made me think it could be a book for me ;D)
Oh gosh - thank you so much for your kind kind words about my blog.
ReplyDeleteAnd congratulations - you deserve masses of awards!
