Your Input Is Appreciated

I can’t begin to tell you how much I appreciate all of the input in yesterday’s post about my quandary to ask or not ask authors to guest blog here.

Thank you so much for all your comments. It seems the consensus is that I should ask authors to guest blog here without feeling like I’m being pushy. I’ve always felt that I’m bothering them by asking.

I never thought about an author being shy or feeling they were being pushy by asking to guest blog. The comments yesterday made me look at things differently. I also realize from the comments that some people that I consider authors or soon-to-be authors, don’t see themselves the way I do.

Since it was extremely late when I got in from work last night, I didn’t have a chance to visit everyone’s blog like I had planned. I hope everyone who read yesterday’s post will keep in mind that there is an open invitation to guest blog here. I just want to say again how much I appreciate each and every comment, not just on yesterday’s post but everyday’s. Y’all are the best.

I’d also like to extend a special thank you to two fellow bloggers who recently passed awards onto me.

First, Heather Webber from heather webber passed along The

Versatile Blogger Award. Thanks so much Heather. If you haven’t stop by her blog, be sure to do so. She always ends the week of blogging with a beautiful photo on Friday.

Next, I’d like to thank Cassandra at Cassandra Jade in the Realm for awarding me The Lovely Blog Award. Thanks so much Cassandra. Be sure to stop by and see Cassandra’s blog. She has wonderful tips and posts about writing and her blog is quite lovely.

The rules with this award are as follows:
1. Thank and link back to the person who gave you this award. Thanks again Cassandra.
2. Share 7 things about yourself.
3. Pass the award along to 5 bloggers who you have recently discovered and who you think are fantastic for whatever reason.
4. Contact the bloggers you’ve picked and let them know about the award.

I’ve shared some things before but here are seven more:

1) I rarely eat breakfast, just drink coffee.
2) I love the color of purple but I mostly wear black.
3) I’ll try to drive anything as long as someone will explain the gears to me at least once.
4) I’d love to learn to speak Cherokee.
5) I change my favorite coffee cup every few months just to be different.
6) I enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles.
7) I love tote bags and collect them, all shapes and sizes.

Now I’d like to pass one or both of these awards along to everyone who stops by today. I appreciate each of you.

Tomorrow I hope to have a book review for Sunday Salon and I'll have giveaway winners to announce the first of the week. Today will be just a memory tomorrow, enjoy it while you can.

  2. Congratulations on your awards Mason!
This is my first visit to your amazing blog and I loved it! I also have like a million different coffee cups so I can use different ones each time I have my coffee (which is like 10 cups a day)! :)

  3. Margot, thank you for your kind words. I appreciate the input yesterday and always enjoy your comments. As I said, the welcome mat is always out for you anytime.

Lua, thanks and welcome. Glad you found us and hope you stop by often. It's always great to meet another coffee lover and 10 cups isn't bad at all.

  5. Congrats on your Awards. I like your coffee cup comment. We have a variety of coffee cups here, too. Mostly they are seasonal, changing with the seasons, and of course holiday cups :)

  6. I missed yesterday's post but as an author who's had to do promo, I LOVE it when people ask me to guest blog! It's one less person I need to work up the nerve to ask.

    Congrats on the awards, Mason!

  7. Congrats on the awards! Much deserved.

I do that too -- change coffee cups. Doing that seems to lift my smile a bit.

I have people ask if they can guest post. I love it when they do. But I've only asked a few people (the one I'm hosting next week is one I asked). Very recently I got to see it from the other end. I was asked to guest post. I was shocked. Me? Huh? (That's how I felt.) It was fun, though.

  8. Teresa, thanks so much. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Joanne, I tend to change cups with the season and holidays too. Guess it puts me in that mood for whatever time of the year it is. LOL

Talli, I guess I've always thought of authors has having nerves of steel. LOL BTW, you're always welcome to guest blog here.

Helen, it seems when I change cups I tend to keep getting a larger mug. I need to try some tiny cups to help cut down on my coffee intake. I'm always thrilled when an author asked to guest blog here. I feel like they really like what I'm doing. To shock you again, I'd love to have you guest blog here anytime.

  9. I was hoping I wasn't the only shy author out there!
And you enjoy puzzles! Seems like that's a lost pastime these days.

  10. I have no problem asking and have an open door policy about featuring authors on my blog. Just wish more of them would work up the guts to ask!

  11. Congratulations on your awards!

I am a bit late to comment on yesterday´s interesting post, but if I were a published author, I would feel very proud indeed if anyone asked me for a guest post. Of course some authors may be too busy to accept all their invitations, but it seems clear to me that today authors have to do much more to promote themselves than just a few years ago. I was so impressed the first time a famous Danish writer contacted me because she wanted to offer me a copy of her new book, but thanks to her I pulled myself together and asked for a review example from another author I really admired. So authors have begun realizing that book bloggers can actually help them promote their books.

  12. I missed yesterday's post. I don't think I read blogs all week, I've been such a slacker in the blogger world of late. I blame the 90 degree weather here and our cooler broken LOL. I think it's great to ask authors to guest blog! I know you asked me which was a high compliment, and then it got hot...
You're the best! Keep up the good work!

  13. Alex, I can't image you being shy. I think jigsaw as fading trend. I know I don't do them as much as I use to.

Diane, I need to work on my open dor policy.

Dorte, thank you. I appreciate your input. It's nice to have others' opinion on the subject. This does help.

KarenG, I understand about the 90 degree weather. We're having that here too. You're still welcome to guest blog anytime you'd like, no timeline.

  14. Congrats on the blog awards!

Most authors love to do guest blogs, especially if you give them plenty of notice. :)

  16. Congratulations on the blog awards, you deserve them!

Because I am a writer, I go to writer's conferences, readings, classes, workshops etc and meet a lot of writers, and almost all of them are very appreciative of any attention. Writing is a solitary difficult job and it's hard to know how readers will respond.

It is gratifying to get responses and feedback and to be "heard" and "seen" after all that work.

I know I appreciate it! I mean when I give readings or publish small stories or poems. Or art.

On the other hand, really famous writers get deluged at these events and it can be tiring, so while they appreciate some attention, they may get more than they want.
