Trees and Pirates: Teaching Youngsters New Virtues

coverOnce again I have some amazing children’s books to share with you. Remember, we are already into September so Christmas is just around the corner. Time to start thinking about gifts for the youngsters in your life. What better way to say ‘I care’ than by encouraging their reading (as they learn at the same time)?

Teaching youngsters values can sometimes be a daunting task and a bit overwhelming for the youngsters at the same time.

Author C.D. Baker has combined five magical fables into SEEDLINGS: FABLES FROM THE FOREST to assist adults in explaining values. Through Baker’s tales, youngsters discover the values of thankfulness, kindness, humility, forgiveness and helpfulness.

Each story is told from the view point of trees in the forest and the problems they encounter. At the end of each fable there are questions adults can discuss with youngsters about what they’ve learned and their thoughts on the story. The author also includes a Bible verse to correspond with each story.

The stories are beautifully enhanced by delightful color drawings.

SEEDLINGS: FABLES FROM THE FOREST is recommended for youngsters ages 4 to 8, but will be entertaining and inspiring for readers of all ages.

Pepper Parrot coverPatience may be a virtue, but for a parrot named Pepper it has to be learned.

Pepper the Parrot joins Captain No Beard’s crew on board the Flying Dragon. The captain gives orders that the parrot can’t follow and she becomes upset. When crew members question her about knowing her left from her right, the parrot tears up.

First Mate Hallie quickly steps in giving the parrot a tip on how to remember her left from her right. She explains that everyone needs help from time to time, you just have to have patience and ask for help.

With the problem solved, the captain renamed the parrot Polly and all was right on the ship once again.

Author Carole P. Roman has crafted a delightful tale to show how patience is important. The bright, colorful drawings will capture readers’ attention as they explore a new adventure of learning. The charming book is geared toward youngsters ages 5 to 8, but will entertain all ages.

High Seas coverJudging a person by their size and/or age can sometimes be misleading.

Captain No Beard welcomes new crew member and baby sister, Cabin Girl Cayla, on board the Flying Dragon. He feels he must watch her every second to keep her out of trouble as she’s so young and small.

But when the crew is chased by the dreaded Barnabas the Scurvey Dog on the high seas, its little Cayla that comes to their rescue. ‘Doing her duty,’ Cayla gives off a scent that sends Barnabas running the other way.

Author Carole P. Roman has found a delightful way to teach youngsters the importance of not talking to strangers and that help can come from the most unlikely places at times. The story is told in such a manner youngsters will be entertained and enlightened without realizing they are learning.

The cheerful color drawings will hold readers’ attention as the story unfolds. A charming tale to amuse and educate readers of all ages, STRANGERS ON THE HIGH SEAS is a great addition to any library.

  1. Seedlings sounds like a lovely book for young children. I had several favorite books as a kid: The Cuckoo Clock, A Little Princess, Mary Poppins, and that old forever classic, Alice in Wonderland. I read these books over and over.
