Ever wonder what your dreams represent? Dreams and their interpretation is the theme of a new cozy murder mystery series by author Mary Kennedy.
I’m sharing my thoughts on this new release today. In addition, thanks to the author and the lovely Danielle at Penguin Group, I have a print copy of the debut book, NIGHTMARES CAN BE MURDER, to giveaway. Please see the end of the post for more details.
NIGHTMAREST CAN BE MURDER by Mary Kennedy
NIGHTMARES CAN BE MURDER is the first installment in Kennedy’s new Dream Club Mystery series where club members gather to discuss their dreams. Kennedy gives both sides of the issue featuring a protagonist who is a nonbeliever in dream interpretation. She combines that with an old-fashion candy store, tasty Southern cuisine and a mysterious murder all set in historic Savannah (GA).
Taylor Blake, a business consultant, will do anything to help her youngster sister, Ali, including temporarily relocating to Savannah in order to save Ali’s vintage candy store, Oldies but Goodies. Ali is the dreamer in the family so it’s no surprise she’s a member of the Dream Club. Taylor has a hard time understanding how the members take their dreams so seriously.
One member tells of her dream in which a murder is committed. A short time later a man many club members knew is found murdered. The scene is much like that of the dream told earlier. Ali had been involved with the man and the police are interested in secrets, not dreams. It’s up to Taylor and her friends to find the real killer before Ali’s life fades like a dream.
NIGHTMARES CAN BE MURDER moves at a steady pace and has likable, realistic characters. The setting is alluring and inviting. There is even a dream symbol guide include with the story.
Kennedy is off to a great start with this refreshing new series.

Hi Mason .. I've never been a big dreamer ... but can certainly see the idea appearing in a book .. and people are perceptive ... I imagine the book would be a good read .. cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteSavannah is the perfect setting - third most haunted city in America. (The ghost tours are great!) Sounds like a unique setup for a mystery.
ReplyDeleteAnd two cats!
I really should go back and count and give you a cat tally at the end of the year...
Mason - Hmm.... it's always interesting to think about what our dreams might mean. Interesting context for a murder series, too. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI have had a dream come true...and LOVE the cover of this book.

I know if I work shows up in dreams a lot, I probably need a day off! Sounds like a great set up for a murder mystery. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteA dream Club sounds a bit scary to me, but I couldn't belong to one because I never remember more than a few minutes of them - if any! But it should make for great stories.
ReplyDeleteLove the cover of this book.
