Death Is Like a Box of Chocolates {+ Giveaway}

Death is Like a Box of Chocolates coverNo, I’m not confused and missaying the quote from the Forrest Gump movie – it’s the tantalizing debut murder mystery by author Kathy Aarons.

Thanks to the lovely Danielle at Penguin Group, I have a print copy of DEATH IS LIKE A BOX OF CHOCOLATES to giveaway. Please see the end of the post for more details. Now here are my thoughts on this fun new cozy murder mystery ……….

Author Kathy Aarons has blended the love of chocolate and books with a dash of humor, a pinch of romance, and a heaping helping of murder mystery in her delectable debut treat, DEATH IS LIKE A BOX OF CHOCOLATES.

The first installment in Aarons’ Chocolate Covered Mystery series, DEATH IS LIKE … introduces readers to the talents and adventures of protagonist Michelle Serrano, chocolatier and co-owner of Chocolates and Chapters. Michelle and her best friend, Erica Russell, own and operate the combination chocolate shop and bookstore, as well as share a house.

Hoping to help the local shops and the city’s economy, Michelle and Erica are heading up the Great Fudge Cook-off as part of West Riverdale’s Memorial Day weekend Art Festival. But, when the photography studio owner next door, Denise Coburn, is found dead in Chocolates and Chapters things turn bittersweet. Things go from bad to worse when it’s learned Denise was poisoned by her favorite chocolates made by Michelle.

Determined to prove her innocence and save her business from ruin, Michelle does some investigating on her own. She even gets some help from a stray cat she calls, Coco.

DEATH IS LIKE A BOX OF CHOCOLATES is a fast-pace story filled with twists and turns. The characters are well-developed and likable. Their humor is priceless and their loyalty genuine.

With an eye for detail, the author draws the reader into the small town setting with ease. The activities and antics of the townspeople enhance the story.

The author will have you craving chocolate within the first few paragraphs and hold you captive with a mesmerizing mystery until the end. The book also contains several scrumptious chocolate making recipes to help satisfy your chocolate craving. This is a tempting treat in what promises to be an exhilarating new series.
