Somedays I just can’t help myself. I have goodies to share. I’ve got four new books to offer as giveaways. But, first I have a favor to ask.
I have been approached about doing a giveaway or a review of products. These products could be book-related like a bookshelf, bookends, book supplies, etc. Or it could be home décor products or even a gift certificate. If I did this, it would be as a giveaway to share with you my blogging friends.
I’ve always focused this blog on books and/or writing-related items. These products could be book-related. I’d like to have some feedback from you as to whether this would be something that would be of interest to you or not.
Do you like the idea of a chance to win a bookshelf, bookends, gift certificate, décor pillows, etc.? If so, which sounds good or any other suggestions? Thanks for your help in this matter.
Now for the giveaways. Thanks to Anna, Valerie and the folks at the Hachette Book Group I have a number of giveaways in several genres.
The basic guidelines are the same for all four giveaways. The giveaways are open to residents of the U.S. and Canada only and no post office boxes can be accepted. Just e-mail (mcbookshelf@gmail.com) me with “Win and the name of the book” in the subject line. Be sure to include your name and mailing address in the body of the e-mail. Just so you know, I don’t share this information with anyone or use it in any other way.
The first book is THE SECRETS OF NEWBERRY (ISBN:9780446178136) by Victor McGlothin. I have 3 copies of this 384-page book available. The giveaway deadline is Friday, June 18.
Here’s a brief blurb: “For Ivory Bones Arcineaux and Julian Bynote, life in 1950s New Orleans couldn't be sweeter. Friends since they met in an illegal gambling house in Newberry, Louisiana, they have their pick of all the fine women, good food, and hot nights they can handle. They seem to have it made-especially Julian who begins to make a new life for himself after meeting the beautiful, classy Magnolia Garbo at a social. But both men are about to find out that letting the good times roll can be deadly when a simple robbery goes wrong and Julian witnesses Bones murdering a man in cold blood. The victim was a white city councilman with all the right connections-and if the two are discovered, it will mean the end to everything they've built together. With the New Orleans police hot on their trail, Julian must decide whether rolling in the fast lane is worth losing his freedom and his life.”
The next book is ALIBI (ISBN:9780446581707) by Teri Woods. I have 5 copies of this 272-page book to offer. The giveaway deadline is Thursday, June 18.
Here’s a brief blurb: “Two men think they've found the perfect opportunity--a chance to rob the stash house of Simon Shuller, one of Philadelphia's biggest drug lords. But their plans are spoiled when one of Shuller's men catches them as they break into the stash house. Temperatures flare as the men capture Shuller's worker, Poncho, and force him to show them the goods. What they didn't expect was for Poncho's partner to be armed and very dangerous. An altercation breaks out and when the smoke clears, Nard, Poncho's accomplice, is the only one left standing. Thinking quickly, Nard cleans shop and makes his escape, but not before being spotted by a few neighbors. Not wanting to kill anyone else, he makes a mad dash for the streets but wonders if the witnesses will give up his identity. What he needs now is a plausible alibi. If he doesn't come up with one fast, it could mean life in prison, or death on the streets."
The next book is THE CASTAWAYS (ISBN:9780316043908) by Elin Hilderbrand. I have 3 copies of this 400-page book to offer. The giveaway deadline is Friday, June 19.
Here’s a brief blurb: “Greg and Tess MacAvoy are one of four prominent Nantucket couples who count each other as best friends. As pillars of their close-knit community, the MacAvoys, Kapenashes, Drakes, and Wheelers are important to their friends and neighbors, and especially to each other. But just before the beginning of another idyllic summer, Greg and Tess are killed when their boat capsizes during an anniversary sail. As the warm weather approaches and the island mourns their loss, nothing can prepare the MacAvoy's closest friends for what will be revealed.
Once again, Hilderbrand masterfully weaves an intense tale of love and loyalty set against the backdrop of endless summer island life.”
The last book is OIL (ISBN:9780446547987) by Tom Bower. I have 3 copies of this 512-page book available. The giveaway deadline is Friday, June 19.
Here’s a brief blurb: “A groundbreaking, in-depth, and authoritative twenty-year history of the hunt and speculation for our most vital natural resource. OIL Money, Politics, and Power in the 21st Century Twenty years ago oil cost about $7 a barrel. In 2008 the price soared to $148 and then fell to below $40. In the midst of this extraordinary volatility, the major oil conglomerates still spent over a trillion dollars in an increasingly frantic search for more. The story of oil is a story of high stakes and extreme risk.

Thanks again for any and all suggestions about this product giveaway idea. It’s Friday so I may not be around until late, but thanks so much for stopping by.
Smile at a stranger today and see if they smile back!
I like gift certificates as giveaways.
ReplyDeleteHave a good Friday.
They all sound interesting. I'm with Dru - gift certificates make good giveaways, cuz then the recipient can help his/her self to what they like best. Have fun with this!
ReplyDeleteI'm not interested in giveaways - I just like to hear your views on books and writing. Guess I'm a curmudgeon, eh?
ReplyDeleteEverybody loves giveaways - who doesn't like to win? I'd keep giveaways related to the theme of your blog, regardless of what the item is. Gift certificates are great. But you could probably relate just about anything to books. Lounge on your new decorative pillow while enjoying the latest bestseller! Drink out of this beautiful coffee mug while reading the latest mystery! Pamper yourself with this lovely body cream while enjoying the latest romance novel!
ReplyDeleteOkay, sorry - the marketer in me is getting carried away...
I'd be happy to win a new bookshelf!
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in giveaways! :)
ReplyDeleteBut even though I can't enter I still love to read your reviews. Happpy Friday!
Wow, a whole latte gifts going on here! Including the gift of your last line. I'll bet those smiles get amazing results :)
ReplyDeleteDru, hope you have a great Friday too. I'll mark one for gift certificate.
ReplyDeleteMarvin, you're right. With a gift certificate the winner could select book-related items or not. Okay, 2 for gift certificate.
Jan, thanks for your interest of my views on books and writing. I do appreciate that.
Ingrid, LOL I love the marketer in you. You've given me some great suggestions, thanks.
Diane, I looked at one of their bookshelves and they were nice. Okay 1 for bookshelf.
Talli, I wish I could find giveaways that were international. I love to share with everyone. Glad you like my reviews. Have a great day and hope you're feeling better.
Joanne, I hope the smiles gets wonderful results. Have a great day. BTW, love "whole latte."

ReplyDeleteThe story of oil is highly topical.
ReplyDeleteGift certificate are never wrong...
I think any giveaway related to books would be wonderful!
ReplyDeleteGift certificates. Other items are usually taste-specific.
ReplyDeleteBooks are fantastic giveaways and my favorites (along with bookstore gift certificates of course) There's just something about getting a free book in your mail box that gets me all giddy.

ReplyDeleteI think giveaways of book-related products (bookcases, bookends, book bags) would be fine, as long as it isn't too much extra work for you. I wouldn't want anything to diminish the site's effectiveness for reviews and interviews. Thanks for getting our input.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see the other giveaways too.
ReplyDeleteHi all, thanks so much for your feedback. It seems a gift certificate is the top choice for a product giveaway. I'm going to do some checking on this and hopefully have something to report soon. Thanks again I appreciate your input.
ReplyDeleteIt's always fun to win something--but it's even more fun if the something you win is something you will really enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI love books and love winning books, gift certificates are always useful and fun. I also wouldn't mind winning bookshelves or book ends, but if I won a decorative pillow, I'd probably use it as a gift (unless it matched our decor).
Gift certificates are always fun-it is akin to free money that you get to spend on possibly something you would never purchase.
ReplyDeleteI think it keeps your blog even more interesting, everyone is right, who doesn't like giveaways? Love your blog either way! Bobsi from TX
ReplyDeleteMary, it is fun to win something.
ReplyDeleteEsme, gift certificates are a great way to buy something that you normally wouldn't have but wanted to.
Bobsi, thanks so much for stopping by and the kind words. Giveaways can be fun and hopefully this new will work out.
