In the latest mystery from the author of Toasting Up Trouble, the Culinary Capers dinner club is back in business when a charity casino event makes a real killing…
Event planner Jennifer “J.J.” Tanner is planning a cruise ship casino night—and she’s really going overboard. She even arranged for radio DJ Connor Mac and TV personality Miranda Myers to help the good times roll. But the party comes to a screeching halt when Miranda is found dead on the main deck...
With a boatload of suspects, the police focus in on J.J., who, though recently linked with Connor, never knew he was once engaged—to Miranda. With Half Moon Bay’s gossip mill running full tilt, J.J. turns to her fellow dinner club members to help fish for clues and keep herself out of hot water...

With amusing characters and a fun cruise ship casino night setting author Linda Wiken quickly draws readers into her delightful story.

Moving at a steady pace, the story holds your attention until the very end. The twists and turns along the way will keep you on your toes as you try to uncover the killer’s identity. The setting comes alive through the author’s vivid descriptions.

The characters are well-developed, realistic, and very likable. The secondary characters enhance the spunky storyline. The author has created a fun atmosphere readers will enjoy visiting again and again, as well as characters they feel they know as friends.

ROUX THE DAY is an entertaining mystery that will be hard to put down once you begin. An added bonus is a number of tempting recipes at the end and a sneak peek at the next installment in the series.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Don’t these book covers from Penguin Random House grab your attention and have you looking closely for bits of detail? Do you think a cruise ship is a good setting for a murder mystery?

  1. A cruise ship casino night should be fun. I'd like to take one, minus a murder! Book sounds intriguing!~

  2. It's a great cover although I never would've guessed the setting was a cruise ship.

  3. Great review! I think a cruise ship will make a great setting for a murder. Can't wait to read this, Penney penneyw(at)sbcglobal.net

  4. Oh, a cruise ship is such a fine context for a crime novel, Mason! This one sounds really interesting, too. Thanks for sharing.

  5. This cozy sounds delightful and unique. Thanks.

  6. I think I would enjoy a cruise ship setting for a mystery. Thank you!

  7. I haven't tried this series...yet. It sounds fun, thanks for the chance.

  8. I do feel that the cover draws my attention. As for a setting, a cruise is a great idea. Many places to explore or hide, periods of time where people are contained on the ship, etc. Sounds like a fun mystery to read.

  9. I'm so glad our cruise didn't involve a murder!

  10. Our cruise in the Caribbean didn't include murder, but it did include Montezuma's Revenge. We're not sure if it had been the food, rough seas, or our not being adequately prepared for cruising, so we'll stick to cruises on the bay or down the river.

  11. I like the cover of the book and would pick it up based on that to read the back. Think I would enjoy this book

  12. I've been reading about this series, think I need to start it now. Thanks for the review and giveaway.

  13. Sounds like a fun book with a great setting!

  14. Sounds interesting. On board a cruise ship. Interesting setting, Good cover as well.

  15. I do love this cover. And yes, I think cruise ships make great settings. In fact, I finished a mystery recently that had a cruise ship setting!

I'd love to hear your thoughts on today's post. Thanks for dropping by.
