Watch What You Wish For!

Why is it we want what we can’t have and when we do get it, we’re not sure what to do with it or why we wanted it in the first place?

Totally confused and it’s not even Monday anymore. First, let me say I’ve been blessed with wonderful authors doing guest posts for me. I’ve enjoyed each one I’ve hosted and look forward to the ones yet to come. By hosting the authors I not only find out about a great new book I haven’t had the chance to read yet, but also get background on the author and/or the book. That’s an added plus to me.

Having said that I realized last week that I missed posting about different topics, not that I have such vast wisdom to share. At the time something had popped in my head and I thought “that would make a great blog topic.” However, I knew I had several authors scheduled and wouldn’t be able to write about it for a few days. That’s when I realized I missed just posting.

But as brilliant as the thought was to post about, did I jot it down to use later? Of course not. Now I can’t remember for the life of me what it was. So that brings me to the last part of the question. Now that I have an opening where I can post, I have nothing of value to say.

I got what I wanted, but now I wish I had an author visiting to share wonderful information about a new book.

I will take this opportunity to thank VR at VR Barkowski for awarding me this
Sweet Blog Award. If you haven’t stopped by her blog, please do so. She has such interesting and entertaining post. In addition, she always shares links of other bloggers who are hosting challenges and contests. Thanks VR for the award. I’d like to pass it on  to Terry at Terry's Place, Joanne at Whole Latte Life, and Margot at Confessions of a Mystery Novelist... Be sure to check out these blogs too. They are well worth the visit.

I’d almost forgot to tell you Hannibal the Crawfish is doing well and still living up to his namesake. I put another small crawfish with him last week thinking maybe this time he’d just like some company. Wrong, won’t be doing that again.

I have a number of great authors lined up to guest post this week and several will be giving away copies of their newest releases. Be sure to stop back and check them out. A reminder the Mother’s Day giveaway deadline is Sunday, May 9. I know it would be a belated gift for Mother’s Day, but still a nice surprise.

What have you wished for, gotten and then wished you hadn’t wish for it or gotten it?

  1. Don't I know about it!!!
Happened to me all through April when I was doing the A to Z Challenge. There were things I wanted to blog about that did not fit into the letters, adn I can't remember most of them now :-(

But what I used to do before the April Challenge could work for you too. When a thought occurred to me, I would write it down, and schedule to post whenever.

Look forward to meeting your May authors. Jill Mansell is one who's books I have enjoyed in the past.

  3. Mason - First, thank you so much for the Sweet Blog Award - how very kind of you! *blush* I truly appreciate it.

I know exactly what you mean about watching what you wish for, too; that's happened to me. So has forgetting completely what I was going to say. For me, it's especially annoying when I'm all excited about something I want to include in what I'm writing. Then, I open up my manuscript only to completely lose the thread of what I wanted to write. Grrrr.. Oh, well... Now, what was I saying? ; ).

  4. I do that. I think of something, then forget to write it down and of course forget it totally. It's so frustrating! Congrats on the award.

  5. Rayna, my problem is I usually don't have a pen or paper handy when I think of something and by the time I get the pen and paper, I've forgotten what it was I was going to write. LOL I just finished Jill Mansell's latest release in the US and loved it. This was the first book of her's I have read. I hope to post my review of it on Sunday.

Laura, oh I so know where you're coming from. LOL

Margot, your welcome and I'm happy to pass the award to you. I so enjoy your blog (even though lately I'm running behind getting to read it). It's always so informative and entertaining.

Helen, thanks for the congrats. I hate the fact that when I think of something, I can't seem to keep on my brain for more than 10 minutes (especially if I stop to do something else). I tell myself it's not because I'm getting older, I've just got more on my mind. :)

  6. Having to stop blogging and then change my blog, really hurt me. I missed all my blogging buddies and their post. Slowly I'm getting on my feet and learning my lessons but I glad you love blogging to. It shows in your meaningful posts.

  7. Oh my goodness, I've forgotten blog posts so many times. And then sometimes I think I'm writing on a topic for the first time when I've already posted recently on it. Sigh.

  8. Mason, it is nice to have authors visiting and for some of the very same reasons you mention. But I do have to work at finding places/times to post some of my own musings too.

Wishing for success is great but then you realize the work involved with maintaining that success. Two edged sword.

  9. Thanks so much for the award! I'm delighted you like my blog. And I know what you mean about things simply disappearing from one's head. Happens all the time. And not just about writing topics--I find myself standing in a room wondering what it was I was looking for that brought me there.

  10. That's funny! Guess you need to carry a tiny notebook with you for blog ideas.

  11. Like RIley/Elizabeth I forget topics or re-write posts all the time!

I'm usually happy with my wishes that come true, because I figure somehow they're supposed to. The only thing is that I wish is about the wishes that won't work out: I wish I wouldn't want them so much. That hurts. And I think I sprained my W.

  12. I am the worst with trying to remember things, so I can totally relate.

I love the name of your crayfish! Sounds like a tough dude.

  13. This post was so funny, since that kind of thing happens to me all the time. In fact it's happening now, because I know I had half a dozen great post ideas and now I don't know what they were, so I guess I'll go another day with the same old post up!

  14. Happens to me too. I try to jot down an idea, at least a bullet point, so I can expand upon it later when I'm at the computer. Frustrating when you forget it altogether.

  15. I enjoyed your musings today, and I like your author interviews too. So the mix works well with insights and interviews! Also, Congrats on your Sweet Blog Award, and thanks so much for passing it along my way, it's so appreciated! Happy Tuesday to you :)

  16. CD, thanks for your kind words and I'm glad you're getting back to blogging. I never would have imaged a year ago that I would enjoy it so.

Elizabeth, I catch myself starting a post recently that I had already posted on too. It just so happened I started my notes in the same notebook as I had before. LOL

Sia, it is a two-edged sword. There's so much more to blogging than I would have ever guessed but it has lead me to so many new friends that it's been worth it.

Terry, I had to laugh at your comment because you don't know how many times I do that in a week's time. I have to retrace my steps hoping the thought will come back to me again. I do enjoy your blog and look forward to your Friday Field Trips.

Karen, I keep telling myself we forgot more because we're trying to remember so much more.

Diane, you don't realize how many little notebooks and steno pads I have with me and all around me just so I can jot stuff down.

Clare2e, I hope you haven't sprained your W. That would be terrible.

Talli, Hannibal is something else. He will raise up out of his bowl if you put your hand over him. I dare not get to close or wind up like the smaller crawfish.

KarenG, it makes me feel so much better knowing I'm not alone in this forgetful-state. At least we're all "lost" in the same area. :)

Stephen, if I just put a bullet point down I'd spend days trying to remember what it was and why I just wrote that down. LOL

Joanne, thanks for the kind words and congrats on your award. Your posts are always having thought provoking. Hope your Tuesday is going well too.

Marvin, if we can't laugh at ourselves then I think we miss out on so much. So I spend a great deal of time laughing at the crazy things I do.

  17. I hate when I have an idea for a post, but forget it. I'm sure I've lost my BEST ones that way!

  18. I always try to do rough drafts of posts and just save them without scheduling, then I don't forget what I want to write about later.

My daughter's class just got hermit crabs. I hope they don't have any Hannibal the Hermits!

  19. Yikes! Poor nameless crawfish #2!

I'm constantly doing that with my ideas for blog posts. They come at the most bizarre moments when I'm far from my laptop. *sigh*
