I’m delighted today to tell you about the newest release from one of my all-time favorite authors.
New York Times bestselling author Laura Childs has a new release out today in her Cackleberry Club Mystery series entitled SCORCHED EGGS. To celebrate this release, Laura is giving away two (2) print copies of her new book here at Thoughts. Please see the end of the post for more giveaway details. Now here’s my thoughts on this tantalizing mystery.
SCORCHED EGGS by Laura Childs
In the latest release in the series, SCORCHED EGGS, the co-owners of the Cackleberry Club Café – Suzanne, Petra and Toni – are shocked when their friend Hannah Venable is killed in a fire. Their shock turns to anger and then determination when they learn the fire at the County Service Building where Hannah worked was set on purpose.
The list of suspects grows as the trio discovers infidelity, a dismissed fireman, and gambling problems. As they sort through the suspects, they also have to deal with a waylaid wedding, the Logan County Fair, a baby owl, a dinner theatre, and of course, their usual hungry customers at the café.
Suzanne, with the help of her friends, is determined to find justice for Hannah even if it means gambling with her own safety.
SCORCHED EGGS is a fast-pace read that flows smoothly and keeps you guessing. The twists and turns will have you rethinking who the killer is with each new clue.
The characters are likable and wholesome. Their interactions are realistic. The secondary characters add charm and enhance the story.
The small town atmosphere is one that draws you in and makes you wish for a caring community like that surrounding the Cackleberry Club Café. The rich descriptions places the reader in the setting. The numerous events throughout the book adds to the feel of the story.
Childs blends mystery, murder, friendship, humor, and a dash of romance for a well-balanced story. Her characters are quirky and the mystery intriguing.
SCORCHED EGGS is the sixth installment in the Cackleberry Club Mystery series, but can be read on its own. Recipes for a number of the delicious dishes mentioned throughout the story are included at the end as an added bonus, as well as a resource guide.
There’s nothing like a small town café setting to whet your appetite for a tantalizing murder mystery.

ReplyDeleteLove this series about women's friendships and attitude. Setting fires on purpose is definitely a bad thing but an interesting addition to a murder mystery. Read first two books in this series, and lots of Child's tea shop mysteries. Ronnalord(at)msn(dot)com
