THE CHRISTMAS WEDDING by James Patterson & Richard DiLallo

What’s a woman to do with three marriage proposals while planning fortumblr_llauuszZ3l1qbl75h Christmas?

If you’re Gaby Summerhill, you turn the decision into a mystery and throw a Christmas wedding sure to bring all your children home for the holiday.

It’s been three years since Gaby’s husband, Peter, died. Their four children have drifted away focusing on the ups and downs of their own lives. Gaby decides the best way to get them all home for Christmas once again is to have her wedding on Christmas and keep the groom’s identity a secret.

The grooms-to-be include: Jacob Coleman, rabbi at Am Shalom Temple; Tom Hayden, local farmer and former professional hockey player; and Marty Summerhill, Peter’s younger brother.

Gaby sends video messages to her children to keep the suspense building. Meanwhile, each of her children are coming to terms with major issues in their own lives before heading home for the big day.
Even though the story is told mainly from Gaby’s point of view, there are chapters featuring the views of each of her children. This is done in a smooth transition from one family member to the each making it a well-balanced story.

While I often think of Patterson as one of the masters of great suspense and thrillers, he also tells a good romance tale from time to time. THE CHRISTMAS WEDDING is a heartwarming story of family and love with Christmas cheer as an added bonus. This is a quick storyline that will delight readers with bits of humor and tender moments. A good book to brighten any day.

  2. You know, I just don't picture Patterson as a romance writer! Only he could get away with writing different genres without having to use a pen name. :)

  4. Mason - Interesting concept for a book! But no, I just can't picture Patterson writing romance, 'though I know he's done it. Still, the story really does sound interesting!

  7. Elizabeth, I hadn't thought about it but you're right. Patterson is the only one I can think of that doesn't use a pen name for the different genres he writes. I know he also write books for youngsters under his own name.

  8. Teresa, Margot and Clarissa, I was surprised the first time I hear of a romance book by Patterson. I thought maybe it was a different Patterson but it wasn't. His other love stories include SUZANNE'S DIARY FOR NICHOLAS, SAM'S LETTERS TO JENNIFER and SUNDAYS AT TIFFANY'S. I haven't read these but I've read good reviews on them.

  12. Alex, I don't think there is unless it's paranormal. Don't think I've run across anything like that by him yet.

  13. How would you categorize his Maximum Ride series? Straight sci fi?

  14. LD, I had to admit it but I haven't read any of his Maximum Ride series. From what I remember seeing of it, I would say sci fi, but not sure if it would be straight sci fi.
