Awards and Ramblings

Where to start, what to do?

I've been honored with a number of blog awards in the past few weeks and I'd like to say a proper "Thank You" today to those awarding them to me.

Most of the awards came with instructions and I will try to follow them as best I can. I will be passing a couple of the awards on to other blogs today and the remainder I will pass on at a later date.

The first new award I have came from Helen at Straight From Hel. It's the "One Lovely Blog Award". I'm suppose to tell ten true facts about myself and then pass the award on to others. This award I'll pass on at a later date and share the ten facts when I do. Helen also gave me the "Circle of Friends Award".
The next award was presented to me by Corra at from the desk of a writer.

She gave me her "Creative Writer Award." This is an award that she created for writers she has met in the blogosphere. She gave the award with no strings or requirements attached.  She said it was "intended as a gesture to further the premise 'writer' within 'blogger."

Crystal at Crystal Clear Proofing awarded me her new CCP "Blogger Purrfection Award." She said, "There have been a lot of awards going around lately; however, my love of cats and the feline in me just had to see a kitty one." It was given to cat lovers and one cat.

I was also honored to receive  the "Circle of Friends Award" from Kerri at The-Writing-Bug. I'm to pass this on to five other bloggers. I will do this a little later. In presenting the award Kerri has this to say, "The
blogging award process is fun and is a wonderful networking tool as it gives each of us the chance to follow the links and make even more friends in the blogging community."

The ladies from Mystery Lover's Kitchen awarded me the Lesa's Bald Faced Liar "Creative Writer" Blogger Award created by Lesa Holstein. The rules for this award are simple.
1. Thank the person who gave this to you.
2. Copy the logo and place it on your blog.
3. Link to the person who nominated you.
4. Tell up to six outrageous lies about yourself, and at least one outrageous truth.
5. Nominate seven "Creative Writers" who might have fun coming up with outrageous lies.
6. Post links to the seven blogs you nominate.
7. Leave a comment on each of the blogs letting them know you nominated them.

I thought I'd go ahead and see what fun lies I could come up with for this one and pass it on to some creative writers to see what they could do. Okay, here are my six lies and one truth. See if you can tell which one is the truth. I'll set the record straight tomorrow.

1. I've been running barrels (barrel racing) since I was 10 years old. I do it for fun, not competitive.
2. I'm a vegetarian and have been for the past five years. I'm trying to improve my health by eating better.
3. My daily routine includes walking a mile and a half around the lake near my home, except when it snows.
4. A number of years ago the Chicago Tribune ran an article that I had written. It was about a double murder.
5. I'm an animal lover. My pets include dogs, cats, horses, goldfish, and turkeys.
6. My first helicopter ride was given to scare me. The pilot could only use one hand to fly since he'd cut the ligaments in his other hand a few days before.

Can you tell which one is true? Now I'd like to pass this award on to these wonderful bloggers and see what they come up with:
Margot at Confessions of a Mystery Novelist ....
Carol at Under the Tiki Hut
The ladies at Women of Mystery
The ladies at The Stiletto Gang
The ladies at Witchy Chicks
Jemi at Just Jemi
Michele at Southern City Mysteries

The last award came from Carol at Under the Tiki Hut.

It's the "Over the Top Blog Award. I must answer several questions with one-word answers, pass the award onto five other bloggers and leave a comment on their blogs about the award.
 Here are the questions:
Your Hair? - Blonde
Your Favorite Food? - Cake
Your Hobby? - Lacking
Your Fear? - Mice
Something You Aren't? -Petite
Where Did You Grow Up? - Georgia
Your Life? - Good
Your Mood? - Sleepy
Your Favorite Color? - Purple

I'd like to pass this award and questions on to:
Helen at Straight from Hel
Ingrid at The Conscious Cat
Theresa at Journaling Woman
Elizabeth at Mystery Writing is Murder
Crystal at Crystal Clear Proofing

I'd like to say "Thank You" again to all these wonderful bloggers who past these awards on to me. If you haven't visited these blogs, please do so. They're all great.

Now, I am in a predicament. I've tried to be more organized since I've started blogging. And I must say I'm doing better. I have a calendar (actually three) that I keep track of when guest bloggers will be here, as well as when I need to do certain book reviews and have openings for other reviews.

All of this was going along quite well until "the book" arrived. I was waylaid by a book yesterday. It looks like it will be a very interesting book. That's not the problem.

The problem, I can't remember requesting this book for a review. According to the sheet that came with it, I must have. However, the paper doesn't tell me any certain person it came from, so that doesn't help.

I usually keep an e-mail in a folder when I request a book for review or agreed to a review from any of the groups I'm participating in. I've gone through every e-mail I have on my computer and can't find a mention of this book anywhere. I've also gone through all my work e-mails since the address did include the paper's name. Still no sign of how I came to have this book.

I'm looking forward to reading the book. I think it will be intriguing. I just don't know what to do with the review once I do it. I'll post it on the blog and run it in the paper, but where do a send copies or links to? That is the question. Maybe I'll soon run across something or my brain will wake up and remember.

Has anything like this every happened to you? Have you ever found yourself in a fog not remembered ordering or asking for something you got? And, just when I thought I was getting organized. Oh well.

  1. Mason - Thank you for the blog award! I'm honored you thought of Confessions.... and I will have fun thinking up six truths and one - er - not so much truth about me. How very kind of you : ).

  2. ...and congratulations on all of the wonderful and very well-deserved blog awards that you, yourself got : ). I'm very happy for you.

  3. Bravo, Mason. It's great to see someone get the recognition they deserve. Someone almost recognized me in the store last week, but it was a case of mistaken identity (LOL)...

  4. Great awards, Mason--and your blog deserves them all!

Thanks so much for my award, too! I really appreciate it.

Oh, I live in a fog. I had a book show up at my house, similarly, and had no idea why. Found out later that I'd won a contest. But the packing slip just said Hachette and no clues as to why I'd gotten it!

  5. Thanks, Mason, for the award. I guess I better get back to blogging. :) I sorta kinda have been nursing (and maybe even encouraging) a mood - a bad mood.

    You're the best!

  6. Congrats on all these awards, Mason - you deserve 'em all :)

Thanks as well - this should be fun!

I'm going to guess your #5 (animal lover) is the true one.

  7. Margot, you are more than welcome and thanks for the kind words about the blog. I look forward to your list. :)

Kathleen, I love your store story. LOL that is cute and thanks.

Elizabeth, thanks for the kind words. I'm hoping my fog will clear and I can remember requesting this book.

Teresa, you're welcome on the award. As for the mood, I can understand that. Sometimes they overtake us no matter what we do and then they have to run their course to get out of our system. Good luck (and you have been missed).

Jemi, thank you and I'm looking forward to your list as well. For for #5 being true --- no, can't tell yet. Check back tomorrow. :)

  9. Mason - What a pleasant surprise on a Saturday morning! Thank you so much for thinking of me! I'm truly very honored!

And MEGA congratulations on your awards! How very exciting for you, and all very deserved! And, congratulations to the recipients of those awards that you passed on today!

I have to say that your list of lies is fabulous! LOL! They all sound so believable! My guess is that #3 is the true statement. I'm just not sure about those turkeys... LOL!

What a strange situation about the book you received. It's hard to imagine that someone would send a book without some kind of identification or something! I hope you're able to find out about it! That would drive me crazy!

I would like to offer a little clarification of the Blogger Purrfection award. I did pass it on to fellow bloggers I knew were cat lovers; yet some I had no idea if they even liked animals! I wanted to create something unique, and I've never seen an award with a kitty on it. So just as with any award, share it with anyone you'd like to give an award to, acknowledging their Blogger perfection! There are a lot of them, that's for sure! And yours is right up there with the best, Mason!

It's such a pleasure knowing you! Congratulations again, and thank you again!

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  10. Mason, how lovely that you're being honored with so many awards!

I'm guessing that you take a walk around the lake every day and that you're an animal lover -- though I'm not sure about those turkeys!

The helicopter ride is very convincing too!

  11. Wow. You are something else! That's a tough one about the book, especially with the new regs. But hey! You have an award on today's award post at my blog! And thank you for this crazy liar award :P I will post it next weekend.

  12. Carol, you're welcome. Can't wait to see what you come up with. :)

Crystal, thank you for the kind words. Maybe #3 is true and then again .... In the back of my mind I have a hint of this book, but I just can't bring it to the front yet. It's got to come to me. Have a super weekend.

Krista, thank you. Walking is good for you, animals are so cute and helicopters oh my. You just never know. Thanks for the award, it was fun coming up with things.

Michele, you're welcome and thank you. I'll stop back by. I have a feeling I requested the book, but I'm just not sure when or where I did.

  17. Marvin, thanks. However, I'm actually running behind giving thanks for these awards. Some were given to me last month and I've just now gotten a chance to give a proper "thank you."

Helen, you welcome. Thank you for both of mine.

  18. Congratulations on all these wonderful awards, Mason, and thank you for passing the Over the Top one on to me!

I may need a day or so to thaw out before I can answer these questions and pass it on! Almost 30 inches of snow, no power (and no heat) for over 12 hours. Thankfully, the power is finally back.

  19. Ingrid, thanks and your welcome. No rush on answering your questions, just whenever you want to. I don't want to even think about 30 inches of snow, I panic in three inches. I'm so glad you've got your power back on. Stay warm and safe in this terrible weather.
