Christina has graciously answered some questions for me about her work. Welcome, Christina.

Why do you think adult coloring books have gotten so popular?

Christina:

I think that it's because it's a very relaxing thing to do. 

Do you have a favorite design you've created?

Christina:

I have many favorites. I think Madeline Sheehan's Undeniable illustration in the coloring book is my favorite because it's the most complex. I'm very excited to color it :) 

  

What do you do for relaxation and stress relief?

Christina:

Relaxation and stress relief comes to me by drawing. Any time I'm on the phone, I've most likely got a pen in my hand and drawing something. 

Do you have a current project you're working on?

Christina:

I'm currently working on book artwork, and brainstorming new coloring book ideas :)

Now here are the top five songs that inspire Debbie to write. Welcome, Debbie.

1) The Tenors’ “Who Wants to Live Forever” with Lindsey Stirling is one of the songs I listened to every morning before sitting down to write Mistletoe Cottage. It fits the book perfectly, and not only because Liam and Sophie’s story opens on Halloween.

2) It doesn’t matter which book I’m writing; I listen to “Fight Song” by Rachel Patten. It’s like the anthem for all my heroines and Sophie’s no exception.

3) Gerard Butler singing “Galway Girl” in P.S. I Love You inspired the win-the-girl scene at the Salty Dog in which Liam performs for Sophie.

4) Sophie sang and Mia mimed “Let it Go” from Frozen in one of my favorite scenes in Mistletoe Cottage. Letting it go was also something Sophie had to do if she and Liam were going to get their second chance.

5) I don’t want to give anything away, but one of the songs I listened to while writing the end of Mistletoe Cottage was “Marry Me” by Train.

I had the good fortune to read the print copy of the book as part of the blitz and then I had a chance to listen to the audio version. I highly recommend both.

The top 5 hardest things about writing a story dealing with Christmas, if it's not Christmas.

This is a very appropriate question because I have (almost) never written a Christmas story during Christmastime. CHRISTMAS COMES TO MAIN STREET is actually the first Christmas book I have written during the holiday season; usually I am writing these in the summer, which poses a unique challenge.  There were definitely times where I have called my husband at work and warned him that I might have to get out the artificial tree…in July.

I’d say the hardest things about writing a Christmas story in the summer are:

1.      Really having to stretch your imagination

2.     Not being distracted by the call of the beach or the pool

3.     Just not “feeling” it

4.    Wishing it was Christmastime, because now your book has put you in the mindset for it

5.     Realizing that you are the only person (other than a fellow romance author, perhaps) who is curled up watching holiday movies in the evening instead of sipping a margarita on the porch.

Top 5 favorite Christmas Carols:

1.      Christmas Cookies by George Strait. There’s banter between Fiona and Jud about this song. It talks about having fifteen minutes for kisses while each batch bakes. He tells her that he got gypped because he didn’t get in on the baking time.

2.     Jingle Bells by any of the country artists. That Christmas carol will put some energy in the room or the pickup truck. It sure did for Fiona and Jud when they were driving home.

3.     Jingle Bell Rock. Jud and Fiona danced to this song in the bar. It wasn’t a date but it was a night of magic between them.

4.    White Christmas. When Jud pulled her into his arms for this song, Fiona admitted how much she’d missed being home. A little bit of White Christmas sure puts a woman into the mood for the holidays.

5.     I’ll Be Home for Christmas. It fits the whole book right there. Fiona comes home in time for the holidays and finds that her heart is really at home this time.

Author Carolyn Brown has a wonderful way of creating characters you feel like you’ve known forever or you wish were your best friends.

Narrator Chelsea Hatfield is spot on in her accents and mannerisms for these delightful characters. Her cadence enhances the emotions of the characters and adds depth to this enticing story.

The author has captured the essence of small town life where family and friends pull together when times get tough and don’t mind sharing their thoughts on any subject. The setting comes to life through rich descriptions making you almost feel you need to reach for a throw to guard against the elements facing the characters.

The characters are well-developed, realistic and extremely likable (even the grumpy ones). The characters have traits and issues readers/listeners can relate to. The bantering and gossip swapping fit squarely with the small town atmosphere.

The story moves at a good pace and is filled with handsome cowboys and spunky cowgirls. Even the snow doesn’t cool off the steamy romance of this tantalizing couple.

MERRY COWBOY CHRISTMAS is a heartwarming, feel-good read that will steam up your glasses when it’s not causing you to laugh out loud.
