Another heinous crime occurs in Alaska, and with no time to heal from the last brutal case of The Snowman, and Stowy Jenkins, Detective Quaid returns to his job. PTSD, a former lover, and an odious villain test his mettle and his sanity.
In A Passion for Murder, the Quaids find that the road to happiness is never
easy; even before they have time to recoup from the Snowman's last vicious
acts, another demon arises. Steven and Sarah discover that the road to 'happily
ever after' has many detours and challenges. Especially if Steven is to
continue his life's work.
Steven's passion will take him away from his family when they need him the
most, but everything is possible when true love is involved.
My
thoughts …...
Have you ever just wanted to
throttle a character in a book you were reading?
Detective Steven Quaid is just
such a character for me. It’s a love/hate emotion for one of my favorite
characters. He’s so typical “male” sometimes. Then there’s also Alice Fox. She’s
one that grows on you. Both are characters from A PASSION FOR MURDER, the final
installment in the Detective Steven Quaid series by author Yolanda Renee.
This is a fascinating book with
such realistic characters you wind up having emotional responses to their
actions. The characters come alive the way the author has them interacting. You
feel you know these people or at least people just like them.
The story line is fast paced and suspenseful. Just when you think you know who the killer is or what is going to happen next, the author throws in red herrings to make you wonder if you’re on the right track. Maybe you are, maybe you aren’t.
While this is a spellbinding
murder mystery, the author also ties in serious issues such as rape and PTSD. She
tackles the subjects head-on and gives the victim’s perspective.
This story will hold your
attention from beginning to end. Even though this is the final installment in
the series, the story can be read on its own. However, once you meet these characters,
you’ll want to know even more about them.
Be prepared to get lost in the
beauty of the story’s setting and enchanted by the characters as A
PASSION FOR MURDER holds you captive.
A side note ….
When it comes to writing a review,
I always worry that I won’t be able to convey how good a book truly is through
what I say. For this reason, I sometimes put off writing a review longer than I
should.
That’s what I’ve done in the case of
A PASSION FOR MURDER and another book I’ll share my thoughts on
later this week. Both are great books by two of my all-time favorite authors. Both
are series that I’ve enjoyed from the beginning. They are two different types
of genres with major things in common – fascinating plot lines, realistic
characters, and the unique talent to draw you into their worlds within the
first few paragraphs. I hope you’ll check out both.
Thanks for stopping by today. Now
I gotta know, do you ever talk to the characters as you read?
Yolanda writes sooooo well.
ReplyDeleteAnd of course I talk to characters as I read. I give them good advice too - which they rarely follow.
Thank you, Sue. I've been in a slump lately, but last night before falling asleep I threw my SCREAM problem out to the universe. This morning I wrote the story, after waking from a dream that showed me the solution. LOL It's a very good day!
DeleteThank you, Mason!!!!!
I think saying you want to throttle a character speaks volumes -- in a good way.
ReplyDeleteI think so too! H.R. and it's even more wonderful when the reader gets involved with the characters because I certainly am! :)
DeleteThank you, thank you, thank you, Mason!
I've definitely had the experience of wanting to throttle a character. Among many other things, that means that character feels real, and that's a true compliment to the author, Mason. It sounds as though this is an intense series, and I'm glad you've been enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Margot. I'm also glad she enjoyed it. This is a most wonderful compliment and inspires me to continue!
DeleteYou ROCK, Mason. Truly!
She'll be thrilled with that review. Congratulations to Yolanda!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Alex. I'm blown away!
DeleteSeriously, amazed. Thank you, Mason
Hi Mason - I hadn't realised it was Quaid's last book ... if the characters are as good as you imply they are ... and Yolanda has had some wonderful reviews of this series ... perhaps he'll make a return - but of course I don't know the ending ... so who am I to suggest.
ReplyDeleteExcellent review Mason, and as Alex says - Yolanda will be thrilled. Cheers and all the best to you both - Hilary
Almost the last book, Hilary. The next will introduce a new character. So he'll have to make an appearance. LOL Suggest away, I love it!
DeleteThank you so much, Hilary, and Mason!
Yes, I am thrilled! Beyond words. Thank you, Mason. I don't see your review as being late at all. It's come at the perfect moment in time. Author's go through phases, the high of the release, the low when no one is buying. It makes you question everything, so having a review come at just this moment has inspired me to move forward when I was really questioning everything. THANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteHilary, yes, I've already started writing a new Quaid story. Most likely a short novella, and then there is a new character that came from A Passion for Murder, that really needs a great introduction, so I'm sure Steven will be there.
I don't know if you'll believe me or not, Mason. But you really made my day! Thank you! I can't say it enough.
Yolanda, you've made my day. I'm so glad you like the review. I so enjoyed A PASSION FOR MURDER and the entire series. Can't wait to see what comes next. It's always fun to visit with your characters. Thanks again!
DeleteThis is a great book! So intense!
ReplyDeleteI definitely talk to characters when I read AND when I write :)
Thanks, Jemi, I do too. They know what they want and where their going. I try not to be a task master. LOL
