This and That

It’s time for a “This and That” post, which I haven’t done in quite some time. But let’s be honest, I haven’t done a lot of any posting here lately. I say I’m going to do better (with the best of intentions) and then life gets a little crazier and I let it sidetrack me.

I think some of my problem is that at heart I’m a list maker. And for some time now I’ haven’t been making lists. Without a list I feel a bit lost. I’ve never completely finished everything on a list, but I feel better knowing I’ve done at least a few of the things that needed to be done. I’m slowly starting to make lists again so maybe that will help. For some reason you can have five planners (which I do) but they don’t help if you don’t actually plan in them (LOL).

Before I get too carried away here, I want to say THANK YOU to everyone who voiced concern over my sick family member. I didn’t mean to leave you hanging about that. The sick family member is my fur baby, Traveler. For those of you who have fur babies, you understand that even though he is a cat, he is my baby and a huge part of our family.

A short version of what’s happen with Traveler. End of September he got where he wouldn’t eat anything. Go to the vet who says he could be a virus. The vet said Traveler is probably older than we think (he was a stray that adopted me) and that he could have the beginnings of kidney problems. We got medicine, he started back eating and follow up showed kidneys not as bad as first thought but still need to watch closely. Weeks go by, he’s eating but looks like he’s losing weight and not really acting like himself. Begin to notice his breathing is also changing. Back to vet who say, “he doesn’t have long” fluid is building up. Get more medicine and a week later back for another follow up. This visit the vet say, “it’s like examining a different cat.” While he gives us a good report, he cautioned the fluid could return because Traveler’s heart isn’t pumping hard enough (due to his age). We’re advised to watch and if that happens begin giving him one of the medicines again once daily (for the rest of his life). He went two full days without any medicine before the breathing started changing again. We’re back on the medicine and his breathing is still not normal. He has some difficulty at times but other times does okay. I'm thinking he probably needs the medicine twice a day like before. We'll see what the vet says. (Ingrid, I just want to let you know I’m still heartbroken for you over your loss of Ruby. I’ve thought a lot about you during Travel’s illness. Prayers continue for you.) Thanks again everyone for your concern, it means a lot to me.

On to other things, I am hoping someone has a suggestion or recommendation for me concerning moving files from one computer to another. Back before Christmas I purchased a new HP laptop. I still haven’t started using it yet. I need to move all my programs and files to the new computer. I don’t have a clue how to do that. P-L-E-A-S-E someone help.

I’ve got a number of books that I want to share my thoughts on with you. In addition, there are several new-to-me authors I want to introduce to you. Hopefully I can get on track again sharing with you (no promises this time). There are so many wonderful books out there and I am so far behind. Two books I do want to mention (and I will go into more details about each at a later date) are MURDER, JUST BECAUSE by Yvonne Renee, the fifth installment in her Detective Quaid Mysteries series, and Jemi Fraser’s debut release, DANCING WITH DEMENTIA, coming out soon. Be sure to keep those two on your radar and check them out.

How do you relieve stress? Do you do exercises to help keep your mind sharp? Are the two things the same? Over the years, as crazy as it sounds, I’ve found that Spider Solitaire helps to relax me and helps me to concentrate. Granted I only play on the medium level, but it helps. It makes me focus on something different and for those few minutes I’m playing everything else melts away. I like to think it also helps my mind to stay sharp.

I don’t normally play any other games online, but I recently came across one that I’ve downloaded on my iPad. It’s called June’s Journey and it’s set in the 1920s. It’s all about finding objects hidden in a scene so you can advance to the next level. It’s entertaining and it works my mental process. If you haven’t seen the game, but sure to check it out. Besides, there’s a fun mystery plot that goes along with the game. If you have seen it, have you tried it? What do you think of it? Is it too childish for you? Do you like games that challenge you to remember where something was or find something that is not out in plain sight?

Well, I guess I’ve rambled on for long enough. Thanks for stopping by today and especially for continuing to support this blog. Y’all are the greatest. Now, what have y’all been up to?

  1. My heart aches for you and Traveller. They wind their furry paws deep into our heart strings and tug on them with ease.
Jazz is better than he was (and better than the vet expected) but I still watch and worry.
    Hugs to you.
I get my solace outside. Or buried in a book.

    1. E.C., they do indeed wind their furry paws deep into our hearts. So glad Jazz is better. Give him a hug for me. I like the outdoors and books too.

  3. Very sorry you are going through all of that with Traveler. I certainly understand.
Transferring files - get an external hard drive, one big enough to hold everything, and do it that way. With programs, yes, you'll have to install those first on the computer but then everything else will be a transfer.

    1. Alex, thanks for the suggestion. I had wondered if the programs would transfer or have to be installed.

  4. It's so incredibly hard to have a sick pet! Hugs for Traveler. Our Shadow just had bladder stone surgery and seems to be doing well, although his appetite isn't back to normal. It makes life tough when our furry babies aren't well! I'll echo Alex on the external hard drive for files. You buy a drive according to how big the files are (how many videos, pictures, etc you have). You can get a terabyte for just $50 at Amazon these days.

    1. Elizabeth, sorry to hear about Shadow. Hope he continues to improve and his appetite returns to normal. It’s rough when you can’t get them to eat. I actually have a terabyte external hard drive. I’ll give it a try.

  5. Thanks for the update, Mason. I'm so happy to hear that Traveler is still with you, even if he does have his days. I hope he stays stable. In the meantime.... I'm a list-maker, too, so I know what you mean about that.

As for moving files from one computer to another... I have Carbonite cloud storage. All of my files are automatically stored in my cloud. If I want them on another computer (or, if I were to get a new computer), it's just a matter of going to Carbonite from that new computer, and downloading whatever I want downloaded. I hope that helps...

    1. Margot, if he stays stable I’ll be happy. Carbonite sounds interesting. I’m guessing programs wouldn’t be stored and I’d have to install them if I used Carbonite. I’ll check it out too, thanks.

  6. I've seen that game advertised when I play Meow Match. One addiction at a time.

I'm glad Traveler is hanging on. We lost Calvin to kidney failure. She lasted another year past being diagnosed.

    1. Diane, as bad as it may sound, you give me hope knowing Calvin was with you for another year. I'll have to check out Meow Match, it sounds interesting.

  7. If the programs you purchased and downloaded were digital downloads. You should be able to go back and redownload if you have the receipt or page where you were originally sent. You can also contact the site and they should have record if you can tell them when purchased and will often help you with that.

Normally you own for life if not a subscription. If subscription same thing if subscription current you go back there and redownload.

I put some of mine on a USB drive and then transferred them. There is a cable you can use and instruction are usually with it.
Plugable USB 2.0 Transfer Cable, Unlimited Use, Transfer Data Between 2 Windows PC's, Compatible with Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista, XP, Bravura Easy Computer Sync Software Included https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Transfer-Compatible-Computer-Software/dp/B005OTPVMY/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=cable+to+transfer+files+from+pc+to+another+pc&qid=1580142497&sr=8-1

You can also move them to a larger external drive and access to transfer by just plugging it into the new computer. The cable is probably most direct way to do it. Don't forget to organise them as you do it makes keep up with them a lot easier and not something you have to go back and do later. Yeah had to do that and still have stuff scattered lol.

I am glad your fur baby get a lot better soon. Its tough. I have lost babies there were with with 10 to 18 yearas and its tough. Praying for you baby.

Programs don't transfer well a lot of time it is often better to redownload or add from original disc if that is how it came to you. And sometimes you get lucky and have no problems but I often did.

    1. Juneta, thanks for all the wonderful information. I hadn't even thought about it until today talking with Jemi Fraser that when I redo the programs I'll have to remember all my logins and passwords. LOL Thanks also for the thoughts on Traveler.

  8. I'm really concerned about Traveler. I'm assuming the vet ran lots of tests including x-rays. I'd look for specialists, too, just in case your vet missed something. If it is simply fluid buildup, there's not much to do besides meds. I worry only because there are dozens of reasons for labored breathing.

    Please keep us updated.

    1. Maria, the vet hasn't run a lot of tests yet. When we first started using the medicine to help remove the fluid, it was twice a day and within a week's time you could tell a huge difference in his breathing. Now we only giving it once a day and his breathing is not as difficult, but he does have some periods where it looks like he's breathing harder. Then again I think sometimes it's just me over worrying. I'm going to talk with the vet and see if we need to go back to twice a day or stay on this for a little while. I'll be sure to give an update from time to time. Thanks so much.
