Friday the 13th…..!!!
Did you hear the ominous background music in your head when you read the header?
What is it about Friday the 13th that we quickly relate it to bad luck and black cats? I’m sure if you Googled ‘Friday the 13th’ you’d get enough explanations (plus the movie links) to keep you reading until the next Friday the 13th (which is March 13, by the way).
Most years only have one Friday the 13th. This year, however, there will be three (Feb. 13, March 13 and Nov. 13). The last year to have feature three bad luck Fridays was 2012 and the next won’t be until 2026.
I think attitude has a lot to do with how we look at this foreboding day. For me, I’ve always thought of Friday the 13th as a lucky day. Don’t know why I do this or when I started doing it. Guess I just wanted to be different than most people around me who were complaining about the day. For the most part it usually turns out to be a pretty good day.
What are your thoughts on Friday the 13th? Do you see it as a bad luck, good luck or just another day?
Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you have an awesome day. I leave you with this inspiring quote from my favorite dark chocolate candy.

Just read at Jeremy's that the day is associated with the crucifixion of Christ, so while a sad day, certainly not bad luck.
ReplyDeleteAnd overall, it's always been just another day for me.
Alex, I had read somewhere that it had something to do with the Last Supper. I'm with you on just another day.
DeleteOh, I'm afraid I'm superstitious. I think a lot of us in the South are!
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize we'll have 3 this year. Ack!
Elizabeth, I think you're right about us Southerns being a bit more superstitious. Guess it goes back to the stories we heard growing up.
DeleteI didn't even realize it was Friday the 13th until today. Afraid I've already had two black cats cross my path. More than once, too.
ReplyDeleteDiane, so funny about the black cats crossing your path. I bet they keep you on your toes all the time. :)
DeleteI've made it through many many Friday the 13's without a problem. I always thought it was lucky too.
ReplyDeleteGram, nice to know someone else thinks of it as a lucky day.
DeleteMason - I've always thought it really interesting the way we attach so much meaning to 'bad luck' things like Friday 13th, black cats and so on. I find it psychologically absolutely fascinating.
ReplyDeleteMargot, you are so right. It is amazing how many things we do consider 'bad luck'. I wonder if we compared a 'bad luck' list and a 'good luck' list, which would come out on top.
DeleteI've always rather liked the number 13, and I like black cats, too. They are so beautiful and usually have those beautiful yellow eyes to go with it, like the one in your photo. But, like Alex, Friday the 13th has always been just another day for me.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, black cats are so beautiful. I've always thought they tend to be a bit more 'clean' for lack of a better word. They always seem so sleek and do have the most amazing eyes.
DeleteI didn't realize toady was a Friday the 13th. That explains a lot...
ReplyDeleteNice cat. I have two black cats and their sister is black and white. My other two cats are tabbies.
ReplyDeleteYou're so right, Mason Canyon. It's all a matter of attitude. And culture. What is consider lucky in one culture may be anathema in another (for instance white dresses for weddings in this country but white dresses for funerals in many parts of Asia). I've loved each of my black cats dearly -- they could cross my path (or my lap) as often as they wanted to, any day/number of the week.
