And the characters sound primarily like good people rather than bad and I love the fact that the author agrees with me that we shouldn't beat the reader over the head with theme or morale. Terrific.

Thanks to both Mason and Gerrie Ferris Finger for a great post.Mary Stebbins Taitthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10626507461216769140noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6582932888892465523.post-53660366917202835702010-04-12T09:51:53.838-04:002010-04-12T09:51:53.838-04:00I'm an English major so I had my share of '...I'm an English major so I had my share of 'theme' discussions. I'm trying to think if I've read a series where the protagonist was someone who's "job" was looking for lost children. Don't think I have.

And, like you, I'm all for an author from Georgia, my birth state.

Helen
Straight From HelHelen Gingerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09794759602654727110noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6582932888892465523.post-50662541115375914692010-04-12T06:01:58.516-04:002010-04-12T06:01:58.516-04:00My favorite books are character-driven...when they...My favorite books are character-driven...when they tell their own story, a point you mentioned. I've found that the best novels are driven by good stories - strong plots and believable, well-drawn characters. If readers also pick up patterns and themes, as you say, that comes after the story itself. I'm so glad you brought that up, because I think many writers worry about what message they might be sending. I think the most important thing is the plot and characters. The rest will happen.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
