Basket Case {+ Giveaway}

Basket Case by Nancy Haddock - Thoughts in ProgressThere’s a new series from Berkley I’d delighted to tell you about and to celebrate the release, Berkley is giving away a print copy of the first installment in the series, BASKET CASE.

Here’s my thoughts and be sure to see the end of the post for more details on the giveaway.

BASKET CASE by Nancy Haddock

Leslee Stanton “Nixy” Nix never imaged the twists and turns her life would take just because she went to check on her aunt.

The protagonist in author Nancy Haddock’s BASKET CASE is a fun and fiery character. She’s spunky with traits readers can relate to. The match-up with a handsome law enforcement officer adds a dash of romance to the mix.

Nixy works for an art gallery in Houston. When Lilyvale detective Eric Shoat calls her about a fire and explosion at her Aunt Sherry’s house, Nixy knows she has to see what her aunt and her six housemates (dubbed the Silver Six) are up to. Arriving at her aunt’s unannounced, Nixy finds a folk art festival underway and a land developer bullying her aunt to sell her property. When the developer is found dead, Nixy pulls out all the stops to find the real killer and clear her aunt’s name.

Haddock’s characters, especially the mix-match group of housemates, are likable and well-developed. Their wit and charm enhances the story. Readers are drawn in by the friendly interactions of the characters.

In addition, Haddock has captured the feel of a small-town atmosphere. Her vivid descriptions add another layer to this tantalizing mystery.

This new series looks to be one made of all the right elements to become a favorite among mystery lovers. The recipes and the crafting tip included are just an added bonus.
