Look Up, What Do You See?

Supermoon 1Do you ever take the time just to look up at the sky and enjoy the beauty of the clouds and the awesome colors?

Whether it is daylight or dark, the sky can be a fascinating painting offering intense colors and shapes to fuel our imagination. This weekend many have been able to enjoy the first of three Supermoons that will be visible this year. In addition, in our area we had a storm blow through south of us that was visible in the clouds (an awesome sight).

Today, even though I should be sharing book reviews, I’m sharing a number of photographs I took recently. The first photos are of the Supermoon. I tried a few shots at the normal setting (above and below) and then I zoomed in, bringing it into focus as much as I could.

The next photo is just a shot of the night sky over one of our pastures. The clouds were so dark as the sky was changing from blue to night.

The last few photos are of the thunderstorm that hit south of where we live. The storm produced up to 3 inches of rain in a short time, causing flash flood warnings. We didn’t even get a sprinkle out of it.

As the night sky lit up like someone shooting off fireworks in the clouds, I tried to get a photo of the lightning. It was awesome inside the clouds, occasionally bursting through. As you can tell, I managed only one shot and it was all that great.

A little different post today, but I promise to have reviews for you in the next few days. This coming week there will be a couple of authors visiting (with giveaways) and scheduled book reviews for tours.

Thanks so much for stopping by today. I hope you’re enjoying a relaxing day and have time to pick up a good book or two. Do you see any images in the moon? Did you take photos of the Supermoon or are you going to try tonight? Have you ever captured lightning on film during a storm?

  2. Whoa!!! Amazing shots. That last one is incredible. Not sure where you live, but we get a lot of those summer thunderstorms and thunderheads as well.
As for the sky, winter is better here when there is no humidity. (And thus no haze.)

    1. Alex, thanks for the kind words. Here in the South we've gotten a lot of storms around us, but thankfully we haven't been hit with any. The winter sky is beautiful - so clear.

    1. Teresa, thank you. Clouds are such wonders. I like the fact that they bring beauty even when they bring bad things. I guess that's where the silver lining comes into play.

  5. I'm so glad you could see the super moon, which was obscured by all the trees in our street. I'll have to walk/drive to a different place to see it next time. Beautiful shots!

  6. I have never seen the super moon! Hard to believe? I hardly ever go out and look at the sky at night. In the city, we don't see much....so thanks for sharing.

    1. Laurel-Rain, living in the city does make it difficult to enjoy the sky at night. Glad you enjoyed the photos.

    1. Dez, glad to know someone else walks their cat. Little One loved to take walks. Traveler is learning to enjoy them, but had rather be on his own.

    2. my cat is an outdoor one, and whenever I go outside he follows me and goes wherever I go in the yard :) It is probably because he thinks I'm his parent, since his mom was hit by a car when he was a month old and I had to raise him after that.

    3. Dez, how sweet that you cared for him. He's a lucky cat.

    1. Sherry, thanks. The moon looked big until I snapped a photo of it and then it looked small so I zoomed in. The color was so different when I zoomed in, more orange.
