Your Prayers Are Needed

During the next few days I will be away from blogdom a bit as my soon-to-be 90 year old mother-in-law fell yesterday and suffered several broken bones.

She fell shortly before lunch on Sunday. We rushed her to the emergency room where she was x-rayed and found to have four breaks on her right side. Her arm where it goes into the shoulder, right at her wrist, and two breaks in her pelvis. She was admitted to the hospital and we are scheduled to talk with the doctor this morning about surgery.

At her age and with the early stages of Alzheimer’s, we are concerned if she can undergo surgery without any serious side effects. One doctor has already recommended letting the breaks heal on their own.

We want what is best for her with the least amount of pain and suffering so hopefully the second doctor for will have some news for us.

Author Douglas W. Jacobson will be guest blogging here tomorrow (with a giveaway) and author Kelly O’Connor McNees will be here Wednesday. Please drop back by to check out their interesting posts. I’ll try to drop updates on the sidebar as soon as I can.

Thanks so much and please keep us in your prayers.

  3. So sorry to hear that, Mason. My grandfather had a similar fall last year, and as a result he also suffered a heart attack and more complications. Fortunately, the doctors were able to patch him back together, and now he is back in almost as good physical health as he was. I only wish there was something they could do with the dementia.

I'm definitely keeping you and your family in my thoughts, hoping that the doctors will be able to help your mother-in-law. Take care.

  4. I am so, so sorry, Mason. My grandmother went through the same thing years ago, when she was in her early 90s. She did end up having the surgery and recovered well until a second fall later. Prayers with you.

  8. I'm so sorry about your mother-in-law's fall. And I truly understand about the complications of Alzheimer's and medical treatment. Sigh. It's tough, I know, to decide what is best when she is so fragile in so many ways. You want her to be comfortable and suffer the least.

I'll be keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers as you travel this road with her. Hugs big time and don't even worry about the blog. It will still be here when you can get back with it and so will we. :-)

  13. Oh, that poor thing. It pains me to know they might have to let the breaks heal on their own, but I can understand their concern.

My prayers are with you and your mother-in-law. Take care.

  14. Mason, I hope you see this before the final decision is made for your mother-in-law. Surgery would possibly be a hardship she does not need to endure at this age. I agree with the doctor who said it would be best to just let the bones heal on their own.

I worked for a number of years in a hospital and saw what surgery did to older patients, especially those that already have neurological issues. It was not good.

Sending prayers and good thoughts your way.
