Soooooo Tired

What do you do when your get-up-and-go has got up and went?

I've heard this phrase all of my life. When I was younger, I thought it was just a funny saying that my grandparents said. Since I've gotten older, I now know what the saying really means. There are days when you really just don't have any energy.

Yesterday was one of those days for me. We had a nice little thunderstorm yesterday afternoon that lasted for about four hours and that caused me to be really late getting home. It's so much fun trying to load groceries into the car while the rain is pouring down and the wind is blowing every which way. :)

After I got home and finished with supper, I realized I didn't have a post for today. That's also when I realized just how tired I felt. And for some reason, every time I think, hear or say - I'm tired - a classic western movie comes to mind. Any guesses which one? To me it's a great comedy because no matter how tired or down I feel, if I watch it for a few minutes I wind up smiling, laughing and feeling better. Did you guess which one? It's Blazing Saddles.

The phrase, I'm tired, always makes me think of the late wonderful Madeline Kahn. I tried to include the video of her singing "I'm Tired" from Blazing Saddles that's on YouTube but there was no code for it. Here's the link to it, just click here and it will take you to the video for a good laugh.

Since I'm tired and it's late, I'll close with this. Please drop back by tomorrow for Sunday Salon when I feature my review of the first book in the new Memphis Barbecue Mystery series by Riley Adams, entitled DELICIOUS AND SUSPICIOUS. I hope my review will wet your appetite for this cozy murder mystery with a touch of Southern delight. The book is scheduled to be released July 6, but can be pre-ordered now from Amazon.

Be safe, have fun and hope to see ya tomorrow!

  1. Mason, So many people that I have talked to have the "tireds". Is it because we are expecting too much from time? Are we relaxing as we should?

I am excited about your review of Delicious and Suspicious. I will be reading it, but am very interested in your review.

  2. Girl, you need a cup of joe! (Just kidding.) We all get tired, especially when something unexpected happens that throws us off our game or schedule -- like that storm of yours. It's good to just turn off and slow down sometimes or just be honest and simply tell people, "Hey, I need a breather." (That's one reason I really like your post today. When you need one, people really do understand. :-) Looking forward to your review of Riley's DELICIOUS AND SUSPICIOUS!

    Cheers,

  3. Love the doggy picture! That's exactly how I felt Thursday after a busy week at work. Getting old is a real pain.

  4. What a perfect photo to go with this post. And I've never heard that saying - must be a Southern thing?

I can't wait to read your review of Riley's book tomorrow.

  5. Teresa, I haven't heard anyone say "tireds" in so long. I don't think we relax enough. Even when we take a break, we usually wind up working. :)

Cleo, I had to laugh at your comment. You don't know how bad I wanted a cup of coffee or mocha yesterday during the storm. Where I was, there was no coffee shop or restaurant that even sold a good cup of coffee. It would have helped.

Lorel, I'll have to agree with you - getting old is a pain. And I'm finding new pains everyday. LOL

Ingrid, I think the saying is a Southern thing or at least a phrase from this area.

Laura, it (being tired) does seem to catch up with us from time to time.

  6. I so hear you, Mason. I try to stop myself when I hear myself about to mutter, I'm so tired. (And it's often right after I wake up!)

I will definitely come back to read the book review.

  8. Mason - Sometimes I think we all push ourselves too hard. Enjoy your rest! By the way, Blazing Saddles is one of my favorite films : ).

  11. Helen, we can't seem to help ourselves sometimes. Guess we all need to take more time to just relax.

Joanne, oh if only I could nap. Usually I don't get sleepy during the day unless I'm driving. Now that can make me sleepy.

Margot, Blazing Saddles is a great movie. That's one I can watch again and again.

Jemi, I think you'll find the character of Lulu Taylor as lovable as Myrtle Clover. And I am feeling better, thanks.

Dru, it does seem like the days catch up with us sometimes. I think you'll enjoy Riley's new book.

  12. I miss Madelene Kahn. And I can relate to "I'm too tired." Seems I have more days like this than I should. It's the age thing and the sleep thing. ;0)

  13. Do me a favor, don't read my post because even though you're tired, you're not who I'm talking about. I understand about the 'tired' because I'm going through that too. I'm glad you have ways to get you out of your funk.

  14. I think May is such a BUSY month. I know my April and May is always busier than December even is. Hope you're able to put your feet up and relax a little while! Happy Memorial Day weekend. :)

  15. Kathi, I miss Madeline Kahn too. She was so funny and a great actress. We won't talk about the 'age thing.' :)

Clarissa, hope you find ways to get out of your funk too.

Elizabeth, seems the spring gets busier and busier each year or maybe I just get slower each year. :D Hope you have a Happy Memorial Day weekend too.

  16. Oh, but I understand. There are days that no matter what you do, energy and productive are not your friends. And I think it's okay to give in once in a while. A break is good for a whole body, and the spirit.

  17. Janna, you're quite right no matter what we do sometimes our energy is just gone. It does help to take a break and recharge. So sorry about your Dad passing. I know it's a difficult time for you and your family. You're in my thoughts and prayers.
