"A Note From an Old Acquaintance" by Bill Walker

Have you ever loved someone and lost them due to circumstances beyond your control because you were trying to do the right thing?

If so, you’ll definitely want to read Bill Walker’s “A Note From an Old Acquaintance.” If not, you'll still find this book intriguing and poignant.

Brian Weller is a successful writer leading a good life until his three-year-old
son is killed in an accident that also leaves his wife in an irreversible coma. Two years pass, his wife is still in a coma and Brian’s writing has stalled.

Brian’s world is turned upside down when he receives an e-mail from a woman from his past. The memories of their last meeting still haunts him and he vows to make things right. Brian arranges a book signing in Boston to have an excuse to come face-to-face with Joanna again.

To the outside world, Joanna Richman has a perfect life. She’s a successful artist, has a wonderful teenage son and a wealthy husband who has put her on a pedestal. But she’s lonely and still isn’t sure why Brian left her 15 years before.

The two agree to meet but each has reservations about what the outcome will be. Meanwhile, the forces that kept them apart years ago continues to work against them. Can they forgive each other and themselves for their past actions?

The reader is taken from the present to the past and back again in a smooth transition by author Bill Walker. The story flows around Brian, Joanna and her husband, Erik Ruby, weaving their stories from one to the other. You come to understand the pain, love and regret each one harbors.

This is a story of love at first sight, honor, forgiveness and redemption. Though the story could be classified as a romance, it also includes suspense, treachery, and deception while being heart warming.

  3. Mason - Thanks for this review. Every time we connect with a person, that connection - that relationship - changes us just a little and leaves a "footprint" in our lives. So it makes a lot of sense that people we've known in the past could still reach out...

  4. Cora, it is an interesting read and pulls at your heart strings.

Ann, the cover is nice. That was the first thing that drew me to the book. I'm not sure but it does list "Old Acquaintance Still Life" copyrighted by Mike Kupka.

Karen, the plot does make one wonder "what if" someone from our own past came back.

Margot, I hadn't thought about relationships leaving "footprints" but you're so right, they do. Sometimes we just don't realize how those people have affected us until we have to stop and think about it.

  5. I want to thank you for hosting me and f or you kind review. It's much appreciated.

As for the cover, the still life concept is mine and was in my mind from the very beginning, it is supposed to reflect key aspects of the story, yet still evoke a mood of mystery and intrigue. I wish I could have painted this myself, but that is not one of my talents. I hired Mike Kupka upon the recommendation of another artist friend of mine and we talked at length about the style, composition, etc., and then I let him have at it. I couldn't be more pleased with his work.

  9. Bill, thanks for guest blogging yesterday and I truly enjoyed the book. It did have some surprises in it I wasn't expecting. The cover is very catchy.

Stephen, I've found that even with books I don't like if I look hard enough there is something positive I can write about. If not, then I don't write a review.

Helen, it is interesting and makes you think past the book.

Joanne, the outcome does have a little twist to it and a couple of unexpected things along the way.
